What is Liposuction?

Breast reduction surgery, or in other words reduction mammoplasty, can be performed for medical reasons as well as aesthetic concerns. The operation is usually performed for reasons such as sagging due to too large breasts, not looking beautiful, not being symmetrical, and not being able to find clothes.

During liposuction surgery, the surgeon inserts a thin cannula (a kind of tube) into the designated areas. This cannula is connected to a vacuum device for suction. The surgeon inserts the cannula into the fat layer in the body and removes the fat cells through suction. This process results in a slimmer and shapelier appearance of the body.

Liposuction is usually applied in areas where there are excess fat deposits in the body. These areas include the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, waist, back, upper arms, neck and chin. However, liposuction is not a solution for losing excess weight. Liposuction is for body contouring and does not permanently remove fat cells.

Liposuction surgery is usually performed under local or general anesthesia. In the postoperative period, symptoms such as swelling, bruising and mild pain are normal. However, the healing process is usually quick and patients can often return to their daily activities within a few days. Full recovery can take several weeks and it is important that patients follow the doctor’s instructions during this time.

For more information about liposuction or if you are considering this procedure, it is recommended that you speak to one of our Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialists. The specialist can evaluate the most appropriate treatment options for you and guide you through the pre- and post-operative process.

What is the Recovery Period After Liposuction?

After the operation, specially produced corsets must be used. These corsets are used for approximately 4 to 8 weeks depending on the amount of fat tissue removed and the characteristics of the person. Edema and bruises are expected and this situation will disappear over time. One week after the procedure, the stitches are removed and after one to three weeks, the patient can return to work and daily life if there is no problem in the general condition of the patient. Normal exercises can be resumed 3-4 weeks after the procedure.

Is Liposuction Performed for Sagging?

It should not be forgotten that having this application does not mean that you will not gain weight again. In order not to gain weight again, it is very important to give importance to lifestyle, diet and exercise after the operation. If there is frequent weight gain and loss, it will not be possible for the application to be successful.

If there is sagging skin in addition to regional fat excesses, the existing sagging cannot be recovered with this method. Abdominal wall sagging seen in women who give birth cannot be removed with liposuction application. In addition, this application does not get rid of cellulite.
